i. he considers himself a hero because he feels like he was doing the world around him a favor by eliminating people like Alionova from the surroundings. he did not believe people like her deserved to live.
ii. this kind of reasoning from him goes back to NFTU, when Dostoevsky discussed that once someone reached a certain point, he/she could not do any more, so he/she had to be "removed"
